Sports Gifts From the Past

As most people are out at the malls, still fighting the traffic, looking for that one last gift. I takes a look back at some of the best sports related gifts that I have received over the years. I’m sure most of you out there have gotten some of the same, feel free to post your favorite sports gift and holiday story. So here we go….

I’m going to start with some table games, I think it all started with the ping-pong table, a few years later a pool table, and just two years ago a air hockey table (which I still haven’t lost on)

VCR football, later followed up by VCR basketball, and the VCR Golf. I remember playing these games for hours. You would play the game by rolling the dice and drawing cards if you got a card that said VCR on it you would go to the tape to see what the play was.

NBA Bas-ket ball game. Each team had seven location on the court to shoot from. You had to wait for the ping-pong ball to come to a rest on your spot, and then you would pull the metal lever “shooting” the ball into your basket.  Same great battles were played out on that court.

The ultimate table hockey game. I don’t remember what two teams mine came with, I think maybe the Islanders. The one pictured to the left looks just like it everything from the boards to the goals, but it did have a hangover scoreboard, which also was the way the faceoffs were done.

You could never go wrong with John Madden football, even back then. I also remember getting some other great video games, Tecmo Bowl was another good one, and how about Jordan vs Bird for the computer. It was the video games that really set back some of the other games that I have written about so far. Everything’s a video game now, and we’ve really lost some of the true games. Just check out my next one.

The Electric Football Game, does anyone know do they still make these? I had to get mine in ’87 maybe? My teams were the Bears and Pats. I remember you had to put the numbers on the players yourself. I had Payton, McMahon, Wilson, Hampton, etc….  This game was made for the Bears and Payton, it was a running game. You really couldn’t throw that little football, but you tuck that ball under Paytons arm and he was gone.  OK, I had to check ebay for some click here

Have a good story about one of these games or another one, feel free to post it. Merry Christmas from TFoul.
